What if you had practiced yoga as a child or in your youth? It's a non-competitive activity. Every body is a unique "Yoga Body. " And in a yoga class, we celebrate what makes us the same as human beings and what makes us unique and special.
What if you had learned at a young age that changing how you breath can change how you feel? That taking a "lions breath" might help you feel better - less nervous or less angry - or help you fall asleep. What if you had learned to play with slowing down every once in a while through out your day? To notice your breath, your body, your thoughts. WHAT IF??? |
I am deeply passionate and committed to sharing the practice of yoga and mindfulness with youth and children. Practicing yoga poses helps children gain body awareness, and build strength, flexibility and self-confidence. A wealth of new research is showing the positive effects meditation and mindfulness has not only on adults, but for our youth as well. When practiced regularly, it can lead to an increased sense of well being, reduce anxiety and frustration levels, and increase a child's ability to focus.
It's a simple practice parents can do at home with their children. You don't need any special training. Just a little practice of your own to learn and embody the techniques. I'll continue to update this page with new books, programs and resourses as I find them.
You can schedule private individual or small group yoga classes this summer in Avalon. Please call 609.760.3002 or email for details.
And please feel free to reach out with any questions or to implement a yoga and mindfulness program in your school.
"Those of us who are raising our children have to remember how important it is to nurture our own inner lives so that we can offer our children the kinds of support they need to develop their inner strength. We must not let go until we have helped our children feel that inner security."
