Bridges is a direct-action program to help young families establish permanent housing after they leave the NYC shelter system. We facilitate the flow of donations from generous individuals in NYC and beyond to the Bridges families, providing them with everything from groceries to stock their pantries when they first move to an apartment to a refurbished computer to help one young mother complete her GED to second-hand furniture they need for their new homes, as well as daily essentials like diapers, formula, food security support and much more. We know that many of our Bridges families don't have any buffer in their resources or anyone who can help them if they come up short in any way. Our goal is to be there for them in whatever they need to create and sustain a stable environment for themselves and their children.
We all know that it takes a village to raise a child and we are that village for our Bridges families who do not have a community or stable elders and mentors in their lives. We walk alongside of them in their first year and beyond in permanent housing by understanding the unique challenges each family faces, providing support, and connecting them to resources. |
